Rain, Rain and More Rain.

It's been raining for days here in the metro Atlanta area. I'd love to go out and take photos of some of the high water flooding in the area, but I have to work today. The best photos I could find were at the local ABC affiliate's website: WSB TV

My first juried competition.

Today, I entered my first juried competition. Art Interview, an online magazine holds a quarterly competition. It cost me 25 euros (~35 U.S. dollars) to enter. I'm not sure if it's a scam, but 35 bucks, isn't too much to part with. First prize is "up to" 10k euros. However, in the fine print it mentions that the prize depends on the number of entrants. I submitted the three images above ( Stormwalk, The Majesty of Trees, and Ghost 3).

Fortune's Boundary

.

Finished this one last night. I wanted to do a wet sand beach, you know that part where the last wave has just receded. The girl is a model that I've used before. She was done in Poser with a lot of time spent in the cloth room. The rest was Vue. The right side felt a bit unbalance so I added the wheel in the background.

Metamerism

Specifically, Epson 7500 Metamerism hit me hard last night. I was printing out one of my works on glossy photo paper and I noticed that the printout looked a bit greenish. Yuck. I’m looking for a way to work around it, but the solution I seem see over and over again is to buy a better printer. Trouble is, the next better printer is about 10,000 bucks! The alternative is to get a RIP, in this case a Rip Station 5100, which is 5000 bucks and doesn’t even promise to fix the problem. There are other RIPs, software or hardware that aids in printer quality images, but they are all expensive.

Searching around the web, it looks like the glossy photo paper I’m using makes the problem worse. Perhaps I’ll go back to canvas only.

Truvia, Purvia, and Stevia, oh my.

I'm a big fan of the newer low calorie sweeteners. A few years ago, I switched from sugar to Splenda to sweeten my coffee. I almost immediately lost 5 pounds. The problem I have with Splenda is that it is pure chemical. I have concerns about the long term effects. Therefore, I was delighted when Truvia came to the market. Supposedly, it comes from a natural source, the Stevia plant. Apparently, the Japanese have been using stevia extract as a sweetener for years, and it turns out that it appears to even have health benefits.

But, now I've been disappointed. It appears that Truvia, a Coca Cola product, and Purvia, the Pepsi version, are not the same as the Japanese extract. They use rebiana, a little tested derivative of the stevia plant, rather than stevioside, the derivative used by the Japanese. Furthermore, they also include chemicals: isomaltulose (Purevia only) and Erythritol (both).

Suspended

What happens if a world gets too close to the star that it is orbiting? In this case, it gets suspended above that star with a really big chain. This is one of my most recently completed works. I used Poser to generate the hiker and Vue for everything else. If you really like it, you can order a print from my website.

Welcome

Welcom to Renderish, my blog about 3D Rendering, my experiences in the world of art, and, well, anything else I want to rant about. I'm Daniel Eskrdige, a 3D Render artist. 3d Rendering is a new form of visual art made possible by computers. Essentially, you describe a scene to a computer and it draws it. It's a bit more complex than that, you can learn more about the process I use to create images here. If you want to learn more about me or see my gallery, please visit my website.
